Washing Machine

Washing Machine Vortex is a ‘greek-style’ tragedy about rediscovering the power of feminism in your 50’s. I tell the story of finding new expression post menopause whilst doing the washing for my elderly father. As the washing goes round I go on a journey through the past and discover the patriarchal routes of psychoanalysis, liberating me to love my vagina and evoke the spirit of change through the greek tragedy character of Electra!

Washing Machine Vortex creates space to think about time, ageing, memory and families using autobiography, photographic visuals and an evocative ’60’s soundtrack.

Though my shows are described as having ‘a lot of me in them’ this is my first fully autobiographic performance.

Audience comment:

I loved the dreamlike, playful mood of the performance

The mix of humour, dispassionate narrative and
slightly surreal dives into psychoanalysis were brilliant.

It was so unique, clever, imaginative, authentic, moving and funny.  I loved it and it struck many chords...
